OLTRE microcement is a decorative wall and floor system from Viero that produces incredible results over existing surfaces. Instead of the time-consuming task of removing existing ceramics and abrading the walls back to their original plaster, OLTRE can be applied directly to tiled surfaces. The resulting finish doesn’t just look amazing; it is durable, water- and damp-resistant, easy to clean, and offers impressive mechanical strength.
But how does it actually work? In this article, we’re going to explain how each component of our four-step OLTRE system combines to deliver such exceptional results.
Four Products—Zero Seams
OLTRE is a unique decorative system with a four-part application process. The resulting product is a smooth, flawless surface from edge to edge with no seams, joints, or grouting to mark the finish.
Here’s how it works:
Step #1: Base
Base is the OLTRE primer. It helps the rest of the products adhere tightly to the surface you are decorating. It needs a good mix prior to use, but can be applied to floors and ceilings directly out of the tub, using everyday brushes and rollers.
Step #2: Barrier
As the name implies, Barrier lays down an impermeable, waterproof layer on the existing ceramics and the new coat of OLTRE plaster that is to follow. After mixing thoroughly, it is first applied to the corners of the room where the walls and floor meet so that an elastic seal can be embedded. Barrier is then applied to the remaining surfaces in two coats, with a waterproofing mesh on the walls sandwiched between them.
Step #3: Style
This is a decorative, waterproof plaster intended for use on floors and walls. Available in a range of 48 colours, it can be used straight out of the tub once you’ve mixed it thoroughly with a mechanical mixer. As with Barrier, this product is applied in two coats to maximise performance. Be sure to take the time and opportunity to sand down any imperfections after each coat has dried and sweep away any dust so that you’re ready for the final stage!
Step #4: Top
The final layer of the OLTRE decorative system is a protective polyurethane topcoat that delivers a smooth, matte finish to your walls and floor. This final component requires you to combine Component A with Component B and mix well with a mechanical mixer before use. Apply to all surfaces with a brush and roller and leave to dry for 4 hours. Apply a second coat, and after 24 hours to dry and cure, the job is done!
